I’m always tired, what can I eat for more vitality?

A. With our busy lifestyles nowadays, it’s easy to feel drained! The first advice is to visit your doctor and do some blood tests in order to rule out

iron deficiency anemia or any other medical cause of fatigue.

Then you can work on your diet and lifestyle; here are some tips

  • Eat up a smart breakfast! It’s your wake-up call and when chosen wisely, will provide you with ample energy to start your day. Make it rich in complex carbohydrates such as whole-wheat bread and cereals which provides you with energy for a longer period as it helps regulate blood sugar levels. Not only that but whole grains are a great source of B-vitamins which help your body use the energy from the food you eat in an effective way.
  • Get your 5 a day of fruits and vegetables, and the more colors you choose, the more vitamins and minerals you’ll get for better health.
  • Go red! Opt for red lean meat, one of the best sources of iron, the essential mineral that plays an important role in maintaining your energy and vitality. Other good sources are legumes such as beans and lentils and green leafy vegetables such as spinach and parsley.
  • Drink your 8 glasses of water and feel mentally and physically invigorated! Other great sources of fluids include low fat or skimmed milk, laban/yogurt, herbal infusions and fresh juices in moderation.
