Did you skip your lunch today? We hope not! We all know the importance of consuming a healthy well balanced lunch to ensure sufficient energy throughout the day. But did you know, according to new research, 13 % of younger children and 17 % of children aged 9-13 years skip lunch on a given day!
Researchers showed great concern on lunch skipping in children all week and on weekends, especially among young girls. The study highlighted that lunch skippers had lower intake of essential nutrients including calcium and fiber than lunch eaters. Therefore, as parents, teachers and healthcare professionals, it is crucial to promote the importance of a healthy lunch every day. As a parent, it can be challenging to encourage your child to eat. Keep things interesting by mixing up what you serve. Make sure to include fresh fruit, vegetables, dairy and a healthy snack. More colors, the better!
