  • For the cake dough:
  • 2 cups water or 500 ml
  • 3 cups caster sugar or 600 g
  • 1¼ cups butter or 250 g
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder or 35 g
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 3 cups white self-raising flour or 420 g
  • 4 eggs
  • For the chocolate frosting:
  • 1 tin Nestlé® Sweetened Condensed Milk or 397 g
  • 2 cups dark chocolate or 300 g, broken into pieces (70% cocoa solids)
  • ½ cup whipping cream or 125 g

How to prepare

  1. Combine the water, sugar, butter, cocoa and soda bicarbonate in a medium saucepan, stir over heat and bring to a boil then simmer on low heat, uncovered for 5 minutes. Transfer the mixture to a large bowl and cool to room temperature.
  2. Add flour and egg to the mixture and mix all together in an electric mixture until the mixture becomes smooth and changed to a paler color.
  3. Grease a deep 26cmx33cm baking dish and cover with baking paper then pour the mixture in. Put the cake into a 180˚C preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes or until the cake becomes firm. Turn cake upside down to cool.
  4. Combine NESTLÉ Sweetened Condensed Milk, crushed chocolate and whipping cream in a bowl over hot water, stir until chocolate is melted. Cool to room temperature.
  5. Spread the chocolate frosting on top of the cooled cake. Slice and serve.
